I am registered at Caritas Alba- Iulia since 2012. I have  56 years old and I live alone, I have both legs amputated. I don’t have the possibility to go to medical specialists. The nurse who comes to me every day, once made an ECG measurement to me. The result of this electrocardiogram was that I urgently needed a specialist’s  advice because I had heart problems, which I didn’t know. I received treatment from a specialized doctor. I was very grateful to the nurse from Caritas, who made the ECG measurement to me.

In 2010 we had a project financed by EEA Grants, due to which we made a statistical survey on a sample of 1200 households from the counties of Harghita, Covasna and Mures investigating the accessibility of people living in rural areas to specialized medical services. The results showed that in the targeted localities there is a lack of specialized health care services.

Data from the Health Ministry, made by the National Institute for Public Health and by the National Center for Public Health Statistics and Informatics show that heart diseases are among the leading diseases in Romania like in other developed countries.

Our patient care services give solution for bedridden, dependent patients who can't leave their bed and home and suffer from lack of treatment (this problem is usual in rural areas). The services provided by our colleagues can be different. We create contact between the patient and the specialist doctor and, if necessary, we can manage the patient's transport and accomodation.

The goal of the program is to improve life conditions of dependent persons, bedridden people who cannot care for themselves on their own and need assistance and care. Medical care and home care means a complex variety of services within an integrated medical and social system. The main goal of these is to maintain a person’s autonomy, the family's access to information, support the active participation in the whole process of assistance. The program has a major role in realizing responsible participation from the family members and the local community.
