Placing a time capsule in a community house under construction in Cotuș
The moment when Caritas Alba Iulia`s colleagues placed a time capsule in the foundation of a community house under construction became festive, indeed, due to the welcome speeches, a priest`s blessing and a performance of Superar Caritas children`s choir on the 2nd of April 2025.
In the time capsule there were placed drawings of elementary school children, who had been regularly visited the day care center of Caritas in Cotuș. Children drew how they imagined their new community center. They said: they would be very happy, if the choir repetitions and the afternoon learning sessions with their teachers continued. They would like to enjoy many dynamic games, sports and artistic activities in the new place. Before the festive placement of the time capsule, children put not only their drawings in the memory-cylinder, but some documents regarding the Hand in Hand Day Care Center, too: the letter written for future readers by Dr. András Márton, Caritas Alba Iulia`s director and László Ludescher, Caritas Alba Iulia`s director of department, the thoughts of our partners from Caritas Linz, a nominal list with our current beneficiaries and colleagues, and a brief history of the center.
The ceremony opened with a heartwarming song by the Superar Caritas children’s choir, which spoke of peace and love. Afterwards, József Molnár, the head of communication department of Caritas Alba Iulia, greeted the gathering, then handed over the floor to Dr. András Márton, director of Caritas Alba Iulia, Szabolcs Sófalvi, mayor of Sângeorgiu de Mureș and Mária Récsei, head of the Hand in Hand Day Care Center.
Dr. András Márton said that a new community center is needed in order to have a worthy space and environment for the educational work that Caritas employees have been doing for more than ten years in order to reduce the rate of school dropout and unemployment among the local community.
“I feel peace and tranquility when I think that the new community center is being built for the children and people who will fill it with their presence and activities. It will be filled with those who are happy to come here to sing, with those who look forward to learning together in the afternoon. It will be a place where older and younger generations can bake and cook together, and enjoy the social activities” – said the mayor, Szabolcs Sófalvi.
Mária Récsei spoke about the wonderful work they do with the children. She thanked her colleagues for their dedicated work and expressed special gratitude to the Local Government of Sângeorgiu de Mureș and the workers of the Social Department, with whom we maintain a close partnership.
The moment of placing the time capsule was accompanied by songs from the Superar Caritas children’s choir in the background, and then the parish priest Lajos Baricz blessed the house under construction, those who were present, and the future beneficiaries of the house. The parish priest also treated the gathering to his own poem.
A quarter of the investment of nearly three hundred thousand euros so far is supported by our partner, the donor group of Caritas Linz. The teachers and students of the Freunde der Caritas, the HTL1 Linz vocational school, are already working on the building’s pre-fabricated elements with voluntary work, and will begin the construction at the beginning of summer. Our permanent partner is also the Local Government of Sângeorgiu de Mureș, whose employees are supporting our activities in our current day care center both financially and professionally. The new building was designed by the architect András Márton Jr. on behalf of Portiuncula Kft., and the main contractor is Nivo Construct Kft.
