Professional forum for preventing early school leaving in Șumuleu Ciuc

A professional forum on preventing early school leaving was organized on the 12th of November 2025 in Șumuleu Ciuc as part of the Rise project of Caritas Alba Iulia, supported by the European Union. The organizers invited teachers, professionals in social support and institutional actors to reflect together on the issue and its possible solutions.

At the beginning of the event, Imola Füzi, coordinator of the Rise project, emphasized the importance of professionals meeting, talking to each other and sharing their experiences, as only joint efforts can effectively combat early school leaving. „We must create space for professional dialogue, as we are all stakeholders in this issue” – she said.

The participants were welcomed by Lóránt Izsák-Székely, Roma minority school inspector, who highlighted that the work of Caritas Alba Iulia is based on love and humility. „I hope that all of us are here driven by these motivations, because this is the only way this work can be done” – he said. He added how important it is for children to attend school regularly, as it offers them a chance to catch up and build their future. „These meetings connect us and help us act together for the children” – he said.

The professional session was led by Csilla Bodó, social pedagogue and director of the First Steps Centre and the Day Care Centre in Budvár of Caritas Alba Iulia. She highlighted that the aim of the forum is to foster professional cooperation and knowledge sharing, which in the long term can contribute to reducing dropout rates. The objectives also included mapping local and professional resources, as well as collecting and sharing good practices that can support children and their families more effectively in everyday professional work.

During the small-group workshops and their presentations, participants focused on resources. They agreed that it is crucial to help children integrate into school life, involving parents and families actively in the process. They emphasized the importance of assessing needs, the role of awareness-raising, and the significance of dual education, which can provide young people with practical experience and real opportunities.

As a closing thought, it was stated that the work of civil organizations is indispensable in preventing early school leaving. The forum itself is a resource, offering professionals opportunities for development, exchange of experience and collaboration. The dedication and commitment of professionals are one of the strongest resources upon which the community can build.
