Report on Forums Organized for the Prevention of School Dropout

Members of the Rise project team of Caritas Alba Iulia, within the program entitled Prevention of School Dropout among Disadvantaged Students, organized some professional forums with a unified thematic framework and methodology at three locations: Șumuleu Ciuc, Odorheiu Secuiesc and Cristuru Secuiesc. The aim of the meetings was to enable teachers, school managers, child protection specialists, partner representatives of the local authorities` social departments, social workers and representatives of various civil organizations to jointly examine the complex causes of school dropout, with particular attention to the situation of disadvantaged and Roma students. The multidisciplinarity of participants enabled some change of experiences, good practices and innovative solutions, which can significantly enhance the effectiveness of prevention measures.

During the forums, participants working in different professional fields, have formed some multidisciplinary groups. Each group included teachers, child protection professionals and social experts who developed together the so-called „resource maps.” Throughout the working process, institutional, personal and community resources were identified, along with existing gaps, with particular emphasis on elements supporting the prevention of school dropout. Group work facilitated the sharing of professional experiences and good practices and enabled participants to approach challenges from multiple perspectives. During the joint discussions, special attention was given to identifying transferable good practices, while the need to establish potential new partnerships was also recognized.

As a result of the forums, participating professionals succeeded in mapping their existing institutional, personal and community resources, and in identifying the most important shortcomings, while they managed to strengthen their professional relationships, and to promote a multifaceted cooperation, which was aimed to reduce school dropout. The strategic significance of these events lies in the fact that such professional meetings not only provide an opportunity to identify resources, but also foster the development of new collaborations, partnerships and innovative solutions that, in the long term, enhance the sustainability of prevention efforts. According to the shared views and experiences of the participants, forums of this kind function as a catalyst: professional networking, the sharing of good practices and joint problem analysis all contribute to the development of more effective and better-targeted interventions.
