Solar energy for the units of the Caritas Association in Odorheiu Secuiesc

The Caritas Alba Iulia Association – Medical and Social Assistance has successfully applied for the financing of a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 80 kW to supply its units in Odorheiu Secuiesc with electricity from renewable sources

In the last 10 years, the Association Caritas Alba Iulia – Medical and Social Assistance has exhausted all options for reducing energy costs. Currently, the use of energy works at the most efficient and economical level, taking into account the properties of the buildings. Maintaining the wide range of health and social services at an adequate level and maintaining the working conditions of the staff, in addition to the high monthly energy costs, has been one of the biggest challenges in recent years. The drastic increase in energy prices in 2021 has already adversely affected the organization’s activities. In the long term, only the use of renewable energy sources is a viable solution, which results in the production of energy for self-consumption.

Solar energy is currently too expensive to replace traditional fossil fuels. Photovoltaic systems are too expensive, so the investment cannot be made without financing. The aim of the project is to create a cost-effective and energy-efficient institution that can produce electricity from renewable sources for its own consumption using a photovoltaic system, thereby preventing approximately 12 tons of carbon dioxide from entering in the atmosphere every year. As a result of the investment, the electricity of the Caritas units in Odorheiu Secuiesc, Str. Rozei 16/C will be produced from renewable sources.

The planned investment of the project includes the installation of an 80 kWh solar panel system, mounted partly on the roofs of the buildings and partly on the ground, where it will be used as a covered parking lot.
