The gathering place – a community house in Cotuș

We are building a future, not just a house!

We dream of a house, we plan a house, one that would not only be an employment center for disadvantaged children and their families, but also a forum for the local community to connect, a space for coming together. In the small village of Cotuș | Csejd in the municipality of Sângeorgiu de Mureș |Marosszentgyörgy, we need a place where, in addition to education, learning and development, there can also be a space for experiencing practical work, for recreation and camps. Where we can get to know each other better and accept each other as they are.

We have already taken the first steps here: we launched a family support program sixteen years ago, with the support of the Municipality of Sângeorgiu de Mureș, we have been continuously holding employment activities since then, a year ago we bought a plot of land with a dilapidated house on it, we had a new building designed and started construction. So far, a quarter of the nearly three hundred thousand euro investment has been supported by our partner donor circle, Caritas Linz – Freunde der Caritas, the teachers and students of the HTL1 Linz technical college are already working on the building’s pre-fabricated elements with voluntary work, and construction will begin on site at the beginning of the summer. The new building was designed by architect Márton András – Portiuncula Ltd., and the main contractor is Nivo Construct Ltd.

The rest is up to You!

If you would like to be a stable foundation, a solid brick in the wall and an exemplary helper in the eyes of disadvantaged children, support us so that we can build not only a house, but also a future!

We asked the locals why they needed the new community center.

We chose from the parents’ wishes: “Let’s have a dining room.” “We hope the bathroom will be better.” “We hope the concert programs won’t change.” “Crafts, baking, and cooking programs.” “Let’s keep the mother-child program.” “Keep learning.” “Let’s improve in the area of discipline.” “Let’s learn respect for each other.” “Don’t discriminate based on who has more income – that’s what children learn.” “Teach children foreign languages (English, Romanian).” “Gymnastics mats.” “Let there be trees.” “Play corner for babies” “Harvest, planting fruit trees.” “Hot meal” “Individual activities were good.” “Outdoor programs.” “Local camps, trips.” “Cooking programs with children.” “Dance program.” “Ballet class.” “Let the choir program continue.” “Gym.” “Dance room.” “Special treatment for sick children.”

The children also drew a “plan” and their dreams include: “To have a big swimming pool.” “Playground.” “Bouncy slide.” “There should be sleepover camps there.” “Movie theater.” “Football field.” “You can paint and draw there.” “You can read there. There should still be a choir.” “There should be a trampoline, a slide, a swing.” “We can play catch.”
